A football match planned for the middle of a Borders forest has been cleared to proceed after being postponed due to flooding last month.

The Forest Pitch, near Selkirk, was built by Edinburgh-based artist Craig Coulthard as part of artistic celebrations of the 2012 Olympics.

Four teams of "new Scots" - people who have come to the country for a variety of reasons - were due to play in July.

An SFA referee has now cleared the game to go ahead on Saturday.

The Forest Pitch has been built in the heart of Selkirk woodland owned by the Duke of Buccleuch.

The strips for the teams involved were designed by schoolchildren in a national competition.

Organisers were "very disappointed" when original plans to play the game in July had to be dropped due to bad weather.

However, everything now looks good to go this weekend.

Mr Coulthard said: "Everything had been looking good, but it's tremendous to have the ref's final seal of approval to say that the pitch has dried out properly.

"Safety has to come first for us and the fact that there will be two games in a single afternoon means that the pitch needs to be able to take a lot of wear and tear.

"Like me, the players are all really looking forward to Saturday and the chance to play in this unique sporting arena in a fantastic and beautiful part of Scotland."
