Learning support assistant Hugh Allan on sex register

A learning support assistant who repeatedly touched a 15-year-old male student has been put on the sex offenders register for three years.

Hugh Allan, 50, of Bridge Street, Selkirk, admitted engaging the teenager in sexually explicit conversation between 2006 and 2007.

He also admitted lewd behaviour towards a 12-year-old girl in 2004.

At Selkirk Sheriff Court, he was given a three-year community payback order and 200 hours unpaid work.

The court heard that Allan was going through a marriage break-up at the time of the offences with the boy and had told him he had feelings for him and that he loved him.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond described the offence as a grave breach of trust, but said he was satisfied Allan was not a danger to the wider community.
