McKendry Coaches school bus wheel loss incident investigated

A bus operator has had two school service contracts suspended by Scottish Borders Council following an incident in which a vehicle lost a wheel.

It happened on Wednesday afternoon near Drochil Castle in Peeblesshire.

Loanhead-based McKendry Coaches will no longer operate two journeys in the Peeblesshire area.

A council spokesman said pupil safety was paramount and that a police and Vehicle and Operator Services Agency probe was under way.

He said appropriate action would be taken once the investigation was completed.

Alternative bus arrangements have been made.

Nobody was injured in Wednesday's incident.
