Kelso coach crash cyclist 'serious'

A cyclist is in a serious condition in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after an accident involving his bike and a coach near Kelso.

The 47-year-old was injured in the incident at about 07:55 on Thursday on the A6089 Gordon to Kelso road.

His bicycle was involved in a collision with a southbound Mercedes coach.

The cyclist was taken to hospital and the road shut for accident investigations. The coach had no passengers and the driver was unhurt.

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating the circumstances that resulted in this collision and would encourage any motorists who were on the road at the time to contact police immediately, particularly the occupants of two cars who stopped at the scene.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist police with their enquiries is also asked to come forward."
