Dumfries cyclist seriously hurt in crash

A female cyclist has suffered serious head injuries in a road accident near a roundabout in Dumfries.

The incident happened on the town's Glasgow Road, near the entrance to King George V Park, at about 11:45.

The collision involved a 50-year-old woman on her bicycle and a blue Peugeot 407 being driven by a 30-year-old man.

A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said the cyclist had been taken to Dumfries Infirmary where her condition was "serious but stable".

The stretch of road where the accident took place is a busy one near a supermarket and two retail parks.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident or was in the area at the time.
