Baby boy dies after Carrutherstown road crash

A three-week-old baby boy has died after a three-car crash on a road in Dumfries and Galloway on Wednesday.

Four people were taken to hospital after the collision on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road about one mile east of Carrutherstown at 17:00.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said the crash victims were treated in hospital but the child later died.

The road was closed for a number of hours to allow crash investigations to take place.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to contact them. The crash involved a silver Ford Focus, a black Honda Civic and a blue Renault Clio.

A police spokesman said: "The occupants of the vehicles were treated for various minor injuries. However, a young child has died as a result."
