Retail chain Debenhams has said it will create 55 jobs at its new Dumfries store, which is due to open its doors in May.

The company confirmed its plans to move into the former TJ Hughes site on the town's High Street in January.

It will be the 16th store to be opened by Debenhams in Scotland. Recruitment of staff is already under way.

Store manager Graham Dickinson said Dumfries was a "beautiful corner of the country with a great community spirit".
