Kirkgunzeon pensioner conned by bogus council workers

An 85-year-old man in south west Scotland has been conned out of £3,000 by two men claiming they would carry out drain repairs at his home.

The incident happened in the village of Kirkgunzeon on Wednesday afternoon.

The two men claimed they were council workers and managed to get the elderly man to hand over the cash in order to purchase materials.

Their victim then called the local authority and was told they did not have anyone working in the area.

Police have issued descriptions of the two men involved who may have been driving a white Peugeot.

The first was aged between 25 and 30, about 5ft 10in tall and of slight build with short, light brown hair.

He spoke with a Scottish accent and was wearing a white jumper with grey and brown rectangles on it.

The second man was in his late teens, 5ft 11in tall, and was thinner than the first man and had unkempt, medium-length hair.

He was wearing an open-necked, light blue T-shirt and light coloured trousers.
