Dumfries 20mph zone expansion planned

Plans have been tabled to extend a 20mph limit on a number of roads around Dumfries town centre.

A report to go before Dumfries and Galloway Council next week recommends a lower limit on roads inside the town's "inner ring route".

The streets in the proposals include Queensberry Street, Irish Street, and Bank Street.

A 20mph limit already applies on some roads including Irving Street and George Street.

The council report said checks carried out on many of the routes concerned showed that speeds on them were "already low".

It is also being proposed to introduce a number of new one-way stretches of road in the town and to carry out works to discourage drivers from taking a "shortcut" along Newall Terrace and Catherine Street.
