Cramlington man killed in Newton Stewart crash named

A Northumberland man killed in a crash near Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway has been identified by police.

John Quinnin, 22, of Cramlington, died at the scene of the accident on the A75 shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

He was travelling in a black Vauxhall Vectra with a silver bonnet which left the road and ended up in flooded marshland nearby.

A 20-year-old man who was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident escaped with minor injuries.

It was the second fatal crash on the A75 in the space of six hours.

Earlier the same day 82-year-old John Scott, of Gatehouse of Fleet, was killed when his red Volkswagen Golf crashed near Twynholm.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed either crash or saw the vehicles prior to the accidents.
