A Dumfries singer-songwriter has won the final of a TV contest to unearth the best new music talent in Britain and Ireland.

Emma Gillespie, 27, who performs as Emma's Imagination, took top spot in Sky1's Must be the Music on Sunday night.

She secured the title, and its £100,000 prize, after a public vote on her live performance at the Wembley Arena.

As part of her success she has also released her first single, This Day.

The former St Joseph's College pupil saw off five other finalists to win the competition.

Her performance was praised by judges Dizzee Rascal, Jamie Cullum and Sharleen Spiteri before a public vote crowned her the champion.

She said she was "totally shocked" by her triumph which she said would change her life.

Prior to her appearances on the show Emma spent much of her time busking on the streets of Glasgow.
