Housebuilder Cala has submitted plans for a major development on the site of a former quarry near the village of Ratho, west of Edinburgh.

Cala wants to build 112 homes as part of a wider plan to redevelop the 81-acre site into a country park.

The planning application follows consultation with local residents.

It would be Cala's second major development in the area, having recently completed its Mooring development to the east of Ratho.

Cala Homes (East) land director Craig Lynes said: "This is a tremendously exciting proposal which could turn one of the largest brownfield sites in the Edinburgh area into a fantastic local amenity for the local community and wider area.

"We have worked hard to listen to the views of local people, and by and large, we were encouraged by the amount of support for our proposals."

Subject to planning permission, Cala hopes to start work on the project by next summer and complete both the development and the country park in less than five years.
