Police officer Ian Ivancic not guilty of Balmedie assault claim

A police officer has been cleared of assaulting and abducting a 16-year-old boy in an Aberdeen suburb.

Ian Ivancic had denied pushing Niall Corbett against a police van before punching him on the head in Balmedie's Chapelwell Drive in February last year.

He was further accused of abducting the teenager, now 17, by putting him into the back of the vehicle then driving off.

Mr Ivancic was found not guilty of both charges at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Annella Cowan criticised the evidence heard against the officer.

Speaking after the case, Mr Ivancic said: "I've been through 19 months of hell. I'm just happy that the truth has been prevailed."
