Custody for Nabil Bowers who raped girl of 12 in Peterhead

A teenager who raped a 12-year-old girl during a party in Peterhead has been sentenced to 18 months in detention.

Nabil Bowers, 19, admitted having sex with the schoolgirl in 2013.

Defence solicitor advocate Shahid Latif told the High Court in Glasgow that Bowers stopped when he was asked to.

Judge Lord Turnbull told Bowers: "You have pled guilty to an act of sexual intercourse with a girl who had just before this reached her 12th birthday. Parliament categorises this as rape."

The court was told that apprentice engineer Bowers previously lived in Spain where the age of consent is 14. However, he told police he knew the age of consent in the UK was 16.
