Shetland drugs mule Derek McLean jailed for three years

A drugs mule from Ayr has been jailed for three years after he admitted attempting to smuggle heroin worth almost £13,000 into Shetland.

Lerwick Sheriff Court heard that Derek McLean, 38, and his wife and child had been threatened by a gang after he built up a £2,000 drug debt.

Police were tipped off and McLean was arrested as he came off the ferry in Lerwick in May.

Sheriff Philip Mann said anyone caught dealing should expect to be jailed.
