The search has resumed for a fishing boat which was missing overnight off the north east coast of Scotland.

The 16ft creel boat Water Rail, with two people on board, failed to return to Gourdon harbour just before midday on Tuesday.

They have been named locally as 75-year-old Jim Reid and his 35-year-old grandson David Irvine of Inverbervie.

Coastguards said a BP helicopter was joining the search effort on Wednesday afternoon.

Anxious relatives and friends have spent a second day at the harbour side waiting for news.

The search area takes in a stretch of coastline from Stonehaven to St Cyrus, and far out to sea.

Efforts to locate the vessel have involved an RAF helicopter from Lossiemouth, Aberdeen and Montrose lifeboats and fishing boats.

On Tuesday evening searching was taking place up to 20 miles from the shore.
