Balfour Hospital in Orkney told to improve infection control issues

Orkney's Balfour Hospital needs to improve some areas of infection control, inspectors have said.

The Healthcare Environment Inspectorate said there was some confusion around communication and a lack of clearly defined roles for some staff.

NHS Orkney has been told to address the issues.

The HEI added that the ward environment and the majority of patient equipment was clean, and staff spoke positively about working relationships.

HEI chief inspector Susan Brimelow said: "This inspection has identified several priority areas where Balfour Hospital must make improvements.

"However, overall the general standard of cleaning was good."
