An 87-year-old man who fell off a pier into the sea as he rode his mobility scooter has died.

Stuart Farquhar was pulled from the water at Pennan, on the north coast of Aberdeenshire, at about 11:00 on Friday.

He was rescued by members of the public and airlifted to hospital in Aberdeen by RAF helicopter, but later died.

It is thought he may have been trying to turn the scooter when it went into the water.
