Mackerel talks failure 'disappointing' says Richard Lochhead

The failure of the latest attempt to secure a deal on mackerel quotas is "very disappointing", Fisheries Secretary Richard Lochhead has said.

Mr Lochhead said the talks in Edinburgh - involving the EU, Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands - seemed the best recent chance to get a deal done.

The EU has been at loggerheads with Iceland and the Faroe Islands since they upped their quotas in 2010.

Mackerel is Scotland's most valuable catch.

Mr Lochhead said the longer the dispute continues the greater the uncertainty faced by Scottish fishermen.
