Warning after Newburgh dunes 'tunnelling'

Police have issued a warning after youths dug a tunnel under sand dunes in Aberdeenshire.

A member of the public had raised the alarm about holes in the sand near Newburgh Golf Club.

A search revealed a hidden entrance, and tunnelling shored up with pieces of wood.

It was said to be in an "extremely dangerous and unstable condition", and diggers were used to fill in the area.

Police said Newburgh residents provided names of local youths seen carrying spades and other equipment near to the sand dunes, and their parents would be spoken to.
