Conservationists on the River Deveron have marked the start of the new salmon season with the official opening of a project to boost fish numbers.

They have installed a fish pass which will allow salmon to spawn regularly in one of the system's main tributaries for the first time in decades.

The Scottish Water project, on the Davidston Burn, is also expected to help other species including otters.

BBC Scotland presenter Catriona Shearer blessed the river with a dram.

Dozens of anglers took part in the ceremony at Turriff.
