Two people who died in a crash between a car and van in Aberdeenshire have been named.

Dennis Morrice, 80, and Margaret Watson, 77, from the Fraserburgh area, died following the collision on the A952 Mintlaw to Fraserburgh road, near the Hythie junction, at about 18:20 on Monday.

The male driver of the other vehicle, who is in his 40s, was seriously injured.

Police Scotland appealed for witnesses.

Sgt David Pirie said: "We are keen to establish the full facts and circumstances to identify the cause of this tragedy and our condolences go out to the families of those involved at this very difficult time."
