HIAL to sue Shetland Islands Council over Sumburgh runway

The operators of Sumburgh Airport are to sue Shetland Islands Council over runway work.

Highlands and Islands Airports (HIAL) and the council agreed a contract in 2005 that involved the local authority providing engineering works for an extension to Sumburgh's runway.

In November 2011, HIAL claimed that the work had been done to a poor standard.

Judge Lady Scott has now cleared the way for the legal action, which could run to millions of pounds.
