Driver critically injured after car overturns near Portlethen

Crash The road was closed for several hours to allow an investigation

A 19-year-old driver was left "critically" injured after his car overturned on a sliproad in Aberdeenshire.

The driver lost control of his Volkswagen Golf off the A90 dual carriageway near Portlethen.

He was being treated at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for potentially life-threatening injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 22:05 on Wednesday.

The southbound carriageway on the A90 was closed while an investigation took place.

Police said that the man was in a critical condition on Thursday, with his family at his bedside.

Sgt Steve Milne said: "We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen this vehicle at the time or shortly before the collision to come forward.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and it is too early to speculate what may have happened, however a full investigation into the circumstances is being carried out."
