Approval for a Hogmanay concert in Stonehaven featuring Simple Minds has been granted by councillors.

Frontman Jim Kerr and his bandmates were signed for the town's Open Air in the Square event, which runs alongside the famous fireballs ceremony.

However, Police Scotland had said there were concerns about safety.

Aberdeenshire Council's Kincardine and Mearns area committee unanimously granted a licence, with some conditions attached.

Organisers of the event said they were "relieved and delighted".
