Device found in Elgin's Lossie Wynd 'not explosive'

A device found in Elgin which prompted further investigation and a road closure was not explosive, police have said.

The discovery was made by engineers while digging in the Moray town's Lossie Wynd on Tuesday afternoon.

An ordnance team from Faslane was sent to the scene to examine the find.

Police Scotland later said investigations had confirmed that the object was not ordnance and was not explosive.

Work to excavate the site, which may have been an old gasworks, was ongoing.
