RAF Lossiemouth Tornado in near miss with helicopter above A9

Tornado GR4 The Tornado was from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray

An RAF Lossiemouth Tornado travelling at more than 400mph came within 150ft of a helicopter just above the A9, according to a new report.

The near miss, which happened in May above Loch Garry at Drumochter, was categorised as the highest risk by the UK Airprox Board.

A dirty cockpit cover meant the pilot did not see the helicopter.

The helicopter, which had four people on board, was travelling at the same height of 440ft.
