Aberdeen City Council to press on with begging by-law bid

Councillors in Aberdeen have voted to press on with plans for a by-law making begging in some parts of the city illegal.

The proposal was announced in January but was put on hold.

Councillors at the housing and environment committee have now instructed officers to produce a by-law which could be submitted to the Scottish government.

Police Scotland said it would support further investigation of a by-law.

The homelessness charity Aberdeen Cyrenians has said such a by-law would only worsen the plight of the vulnerable.
