A man who shouted sectarian abuse at former Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram in Peterhead while recording it on his phone has been fined.

Aaron Laing, 25, of Dundee, admitted targeting Mr Goram at a branch of Ladbrokes bookmakers.

The footage was then uploaded onto the internet.

Laing was fined £600 at Peterhead Sheriff Court for the offence, which happened on Saturday 19 January.

The footage has since been removed.

The court heard that Laing had been alerted to Mr Goram being in the bookmakers while he was in a nearby pub.

Football Liaison Prosecutor for the North of Scotland Vicki Lee Bell said: "There is no place in a modern Scotland for behaviour motivated by prejudice, discrimination or bigotry of any kind.

"It is the right of everyone to go about their business without fear of humiliation, harassment or abuse.

"The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service will continue to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to such offences and bring those who perpetrate such crimes to justice."
