Girl, 2, dies after being knocked down in Portlethen

A two-year-old girl has died after being hit by a 4x4 vehicle in Portlethen in Aberdeenshire.

The collision happened on Hillside Road in the town shortly after 16:00.

The toddler was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but Grampian Police said she was fatally injured in the incident.

The driver of the 4x4 was not hurt. Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Insp Ian Kirkwood said: "Tragically, a young girl has lost her life as a result of the incident.

"Her parents have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

"It is too early to speculate on the cause of the collision and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or its immediate aftermath, and who has not yet spoken with police, to contact us as soon as possible."
