A man jailed for seven years for raping a woman he took back to a flat in Aberdeen has had his sentence cut.

Amit Gupta, 28, had denied repeatedly raping the woman on Christmas Eve 2010 while she was incapable of giving or withholding consent.

The University of Aberdeen business administration student was jailed in May last year after being found guilty.

Appeal judges have ruled that seven years was excessive, and cut the sentence by 18 months.

Gupta had also been placed on the sex offenders register for life.
