A 90% "yes" vote in favour of strike action in a ballot in the First Aberdeen bus pay dispute has been announced.

Staff, including drivers and cleaners, were asked if they were prepared to take part in action.

The Unite union said 206 of the 227 valid votes - 90.7% - voted yes, with 21 against.

Members will now be consulted about what action they want to take.

Duncan Cameron, director and general manager of First Aberdeen, said: "Any industrial action is deeply regrettable and very disappointing.

"It will cause undue disruption and anxiety for the many customers who rely on local bus services to get to school, work and leisure destinations.

"I'd like to assure our customers that we will be doing everything we reasonably can to avoid disruption.

"However, should we be faced with industrial action we will communicate our plans to deal with any disruption as soon as possible."

He added: "We have made it absolutely clear to the union that we are not prepared to fund a pay award for drivers by asking our customers to pay higher fares."
