Police name driver killed in A97 crash near Huntly

A 32-year-old man who was killed in a car crash in Aberdeenshire on Friday morning has been formally identified.

Richard Plaine, from Aberchirder, died at the scene of the accident on the A97 near Huntly after the Fiat Stilo he was driving was involved in a collision with a Land Rover Discovery.

A woman in her 20s and a baby who were also in the Fiat were flown to hospital in Aberdeen as a precaution.

Police urged any witnesses to contact them.

Sgt Chris Whelan of Grampian Police's Roads Policing Unit said: "We are continuing our enquiries into this tragic collision and part of our focus is on the weather and road conditions.

"We would be very keen to speak to any motorist who was using the A97 that morning, in particular the stretch of road near to the Bridge of Pitfancy".
