Man dies in Longhope industrial accident in Orkney

A 45-year-old man has died following an industrial accident at a pier in Orkney.

The incident, involving a digger, happened in Longhope on the island of Hoy at about 19:30 on Tuesday.

The man died after sustaining crush injuries, despite the efforts of local ambulance personnel.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been notified and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Northern Constabulary said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
