A96 crash leaves Elgin City player critically injured

Footballers with Third Division club Elgin City have been injured - one seriously - after a two-car collision on the A96 between Elgin and Forres.

The 21-year-old who was left in a critical condition was a passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa.

The car collided with a silver Corsa at about 22:15 on Wednesday, before hitting a tree.

Five other young men required treatment after the crash. The road was closed overnight for investigations.

Grampian Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision.

In a statement, Elgin City FC said: "We have been informed that one 21-year-old player remains in the intensive care unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

"The thoughts of all at the Club are with those involved in this incident and with their families."
