An investigation into the outbreak of E.coli O157 infection in the Orkney Islands has found there was no direct link between the cases.

Six people were confirmed as having the infection, one of whom is still in hospital receiving treatment.

A spokesperson for NHS Orkney said they identified some general similarities between the cases but were unable to pinpoint a common source.

They found three strains of the disease among the six confirmed cases.

The investigation was held jointly between NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council.
