Probe into 'defecating on floor among books' at Stonehaven Library

Police are probing two incidents of someone defecating on the floor among the books in a library.

The incidents, at Stonehaven Library, in the Aberdeenshire town's Evan Street, both happened within the past month.

Aberdeenshire Council said one of the incidents, on a Saturday, forced the library to close.

A Grampian Police spokeswoman told the BBC Scotland news website an investigation was under way.

A council spokesman said: "We can confirm that Grampian Police are now investigating following two incidents at Stonehaven Library within the last month.

"As a result of the second incident, the library was closed on Saturday 18 August.

"As the incident is now the subject of a police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further."
