A woman has died after a two car crash on the Beach Esplanade in Aberdeen.

Grampian Police said two men were also injured in the collision which happened at about 14:30.

The 47-year-old woman, the driver of a red BMW, died at the scene. The two men, who were travelling in a black Volkswagen Golf, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The road was closed while investigations were carried out. Officers have appealed for witnesses.

Insp Ian Kirkwood said: "We know that the black Volkswagen Golf was being driven north on the Beach Esplanade from the direction of the Beach Ballroom towards the Bridge of Don and I would ask anyone who may have seen this car in the lead up to the collision to phone the police with their details.

"Similarly, following the collision, several members of the public stopped at the scene and spoke to the initial attending police officers and an off-duty police officer who had come across the collision.

"These members of the public then left prior to leaving their details and I would ask that they also contact the police as they may have important information."
