Kite-surfer rescue at rocks near Aberdeenshire castle

Rescue Peterhead Lifeboat spotted the man about 30ft down on cliffs near the castle

A kite-surfer has been rescued after becoming stuck on rocks near an Aberdeenshire castle.

The alarm was raised at about 18:00 on Saturday when someone spotted the man in difficulty on the cliffs near Slains Castle.

An RAF rescue helicopter was scrambled and coastguard and lifeboat teams from Peterhead and Cruden Bay were also sent to the scene.

The man was not injured and did not need medical attention.

A Peterhead Lifeboat spokesman said: "After being directed by the coastguard, the casualty was spotted approximately 30ft down the cliffs just east of Slains Castle.

"The lifeboat stood by, as the coastguard team successfully recovered the casualty and his gear to the top of the cliffs."
