A worker at Moray Crematorium has been suspended amid a police probe into allegations of thefts of items retrieved from the ashes of the dead.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, is a worker at the facility in Buckie.

A spokesman for Dignity Funeral said a member of staff had been suspended pending the police investigation.

A Grampian Police spokesperson said: "A small amount of metal may have been taken." Dignity said the employee had access to the cremator room.

The company stressed jewellery had never been removed from the dead prior to cremation.
