Tributes paid to Aberdeen beach death crash teenager Conor Donald

Tribute has been paid to a teenage motorist who died in a crash on the Beach Esplanade in Aberdeen.

Conor Donald, 18, from Newmachar, was the driver of a red Fiat Punto which was in collision with a red Ford Transit van at 07:45 on Saturday.

Relatives said in a statement: "Our son had the kindest heart. All who knew him were touched by his generosity of spirit.

"His smile was the light of our lives. He will be sadly missed by all."

They added: "He was the best son, brother, uncle, grandson, great grandson, nephew, cousin and friend."

The male van driver was not seriously hurt in the crash.

Grampian Police appealed for witnesses to contact them.

It came just two days after teenager Zoe Dunn died in a crash near Banchory.

'More serious'

The force said the tragedies highlighted the vulnerability of young motorists.

Head of road policing, Ch Insp Ian Wallace, said it made the behaviour of some drivers at the weekend all the more disappointing.

Three people were caught speeding at up to 118mph on the A90 at Balmedie, and a teenager was recorded at 105mph on a minor road near Hopeman in Moray.

In Aberdeen, three men, aged 17, 18 and 22, and a 23 year old woman, were reported for drink-driving.

Ch Insp Wallace said: "Despite these recent sad events, the weekend period saw a number of young drivers failing to drive responsibility and through good fortune, the worst that befell them was being stopped by the police.

"On another day, the circumstances could have ended up in something far more serious."
