Orkney shop worker foils knife robbery with tape dispenser
Euan Brown hit the robber over the head with the tape dispenser
A shop worker fought off a knife-wielding robber who tried to steal money from his till.
Euan Brown was working behind the counter at Baikie's Stores in Finstown, Orkney, when a man pulled out a knife and told him to empty the till.
But 20-year-old Mr Brown picked up a sticky tape dispenser and hit him over the head with it, breaking it in half.
The man then ran from the shop empty-handed.
Mr Brown - who suffered a minor injury in Saturday night's incident - said he had been more surprised by the attack than anything else.
"I have no idea where he went after leaving the shop, but wherever he is, he's got a sore head," he added.
Police said the suspect was in his 20s, about 5ft 9in tall, clean shaven and wearing a black beanie hat pulled down over his ears, a dark raincoat-type jacket and faded blue jeans.
A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a male matching this description in the area at the relevant time, or from anyone who received a visit from a male matching this description around the time in question.
"The male may also have had an injury to his forehead following the incident or been complaining of a sore head."
