A man has appeared in court in connection with the death of a teenage army cadet from Aberdeenshire.

Kaylee McIntosh, 14, from Fyvie, drowned after becoming trapped under a boat during a training exercise in Loch Carnan in the Outer Hebrides in 2007.

Major George McCallum, 51, of Peterhead, faced health and safety charges at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The allegations involve failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of people taking part.

He made no plea and was bailed.

No date has yet been set for the next appearance.
