The search for a teenager who mysteriously vanished in Moray on Hogmanay has been scaled down, police have said.

Aidan McPherson, 19, was last seen in Elgin on 31 December after leaving a party, leading to a major hunt.

Grampian Police said inquiries would continue into the disappearance.

A woman in her 20s is believed to have been seen talking to Mr McPherson on Newmill Road at about 2340 GMT on Hogmanay.

Land, air and river searches have been carried out, with more than 500 homes and businesses visited.

Mr McPherson's disappearance was said by his family to be totally out of character.

He is described as being about 5ft 5in tall, of slight build, with short, fair hair.

When last seen, he was wearing a dark jacket and jeans.
