Aberdeen City Council boss offered Edinburgh post

Sue Bruce joined Aberdeen City Council in 2008.

Aberdeen City Council's chief executive has been offered the same role at City of Edinburgh Council.

Sue Bruce, who arrived in Aberdeen less than two years ago, has been chosen as the preferred candidate.

The appointment still has to be ratified by the council at a meeting on 16 September.

Ms Bruce previously held the same post at East Dunbartonshire Council and replaced Douglas Paterson in Aberdeen in 2008 after he took early retirement.

Ms Bruce, 54, said: "I am delighted to be recommended to council as the preferred candidate.

"I have enjoyed and valued my time in Aberdeen greatly, however this would have to be regarded as the pinnacle of my career.

"Edinburgh is a great city and a major European capital, and I am looking forward immensely to applying myself to the role."

City of Edinburgh Council leader Jenny Dawe said: "It is essential that we have the right calibre of chief executive for what is a difficult, but rewarding, role at the best of times.

"We have had a strong field and a rigorous recruitment process.

"Sue has emerged from that as our preferred candidate and I am confident that her outstanding knowledge, experience and leadership will be a real asset to the council as we deal with the budgetary and other challenges we face."
