Rare books stolen from Moray farmhouse

Police are investigating the theft of rare books and paintings from a farmhouse in the Birnie area of Elgin.

The items stolen included a set of 24 Sir Walter Scott Waverly 1842 edition books and a first edition of Logan and McIan's The Clans of the Scottish Highlands, from 1845.

Police said the books, which are worth a four-figure sum, were stolen between 0930 and 1230 BST on Wednesday.

The Grampian force urged the public to contact them if offered the books.
