Injured gas platform worker airlifted to hospital

A worker was airlifted to hospital in Aberdeen after being injured while working on a North Sea gas platform.

The incident happened on the North Everest, about 145 miles north east of Aberdeen, on Thursday evening.

The man was assessed offshore and then flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The platform's operator, BG Group, told the BBC Scotland news website the man had suffered an eye injury. The accident is being investigated.
