Call for NHS Grampian accommodation probe

An MSP has called for an investigation by NHS Grampian into three senior managers staying in hospital staff accommodation for up to 18 months.

BBC Scotland can reveal North East Labour MSP Richard Baker wants the health board to consider whether it is an appropriate use of resources.

The three involved include human resources director Mark Sinclair.

NHS Grampian - which needs to save £34m this year - said no individual had acted inappropriately.

Mr Sinclair is on a salary of more than £100,000.

The staff living quarters are within the Woodend Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary sites and are generally used by nursing staff and junior doctors.

Best use

The rental cost is understood to be about £200 a month.

The head of health and safety, John Brett, and Lynn Marsland, who is head of strategic change, are also living in staff accommodation.

NHS Grampian confirmed to BBC Scotland that the lengths of stay ranged from five months to 18 months.

An NHS Grampian spokeswoman said there was no waiting list at present and no clinical staff were currently being turned down.

She added that NHS Grampian was very focused on the current financial situation and was committed to making the best use of public money.
