Scotland's only funicular railway is to be closed next week for maintenance work, its new operator has said.

One of the CairnGorm Mountain railway's 15-tonne carriages will be lifted from the track during the work, which is scheduled to run from Sunday to Friday.

Natural Retreats UK took over the running of the railway and CairnGorm Mountain ski centre last week.

It said the rest of the centre near Aviemore would be unaffected by the closure of the funicular.

The ski resort is owned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

The railway connects a base station with the Ptarmigan Restaurant 1,097m (3,599ft) up Cairn Gorm mountain.
