Man jailed for indecently assaulting woman in Alness

A man has been jailed for 30 months at the High Court in Edinburgh for indecently assaulting a woman in Alness in Ross-shire.

Nicholas Baldacchino, who was described as a prisoner in Inverness, attacked his victim on 20 October.

The 23-year-old appeared for sentence after having previously been convicted of the assault.

Judge Lord Bannatyne described the attack as "nasty" and said there was no alternative to jailing Baldacchino.

Baldacchino's counsel, Lorenzo Alonzi, said the man was in "a steady relationship" with a partner and the couple had a two-year-old daughter.

"He does express remorse," said Mr Alonzi. "He does feel guilty for having cheated on his partner."
